An Interesting Blog-icle: Greenwich Emotion Map. This project makes use of GPS and a device that detects and records emotional responses to the physical surroundings of the wearer to produce an "emotional map" that highlights where people feel stressed or where they feel excited.

An interesting implication: how would a map made in a similar fashion to the Greenwhich map be similar or different to these maps of the Smith campus using the results of a survery where students consciously decided between places that made them uncomfortable and places they felt safe in.

We now have 15 minute USGS maps for Massachusetts in our Special Collections data library. These maps were acquired from the Harvard GeoSpatial Library which is a great resource for mappers and historians alike.  You can now access these maps "locally" from our server - \\geo\gis\data\special_collections\ma_15min_quads

Enjoy....

Take a look and see what David Maquire at ESRI has to say about jobs in GIS.

"One of the biggest factors holding back GIS is a shortage of staff. This year ESRI will attempt to hire around 400 people at locations throughout the US, with most vacancies here at our headquarters in southern California."

David's blog: GIS Matters

Looking for a great gift for that Geographer, Geologist, Historian, GIS Specialist, or all around Map Lover?  Browse over to Old Maps and find a gem.  Perhaps a gift to the Spatial Analysis Lab....

From the website:

"Our focus is mostly on the extraordinary wall maps of the late 1850s; some of the first detailed maps for most of rural New England.  These maps are not very accessible to most people since they are large maps which can't be easily copied.  As time permits, we will be adding to the collection now offered.."
